As a mental health care provider, we are required to verify the accuracy of your information, including your ID, health insurance, and BSN number. It is therefore very important that you bring your ID to the first appointment and show it to the secretarial staff. Your information will then be added to the patient database.

In most cases, treatment at GGZ voor elkaar is fully reimbursed under the basic health insurance plan. You do not need supplementary insurance or special policy conditions for this. The only thing you need is a valid referral from your GP. Treatment is reimbursed if your symptoms meet the DSM-5 criteria. Both the GP and the practitioner check whether there is a DSM-5 diagnosis (diagnostic manual for mental disorders). During registration, your doctor will assess whether your care request qualifies for reimbursement by your health insurer. You will be clearly informed about this.

The duration of treatment may vary depending on the type of health insurance you have. In mental health care, your health insurance plays an important role in determining the options and limitations of your treatment. Some insurance plans cover a broader range of treatments and longer treatment trajectories, while others may offer more limited coverage.

It is therefore important to review your policy terms and discuss them with your practitioner to get a clear overview of the coverage and any limitations. Your practitioner can help you understand how your insurance affects your treatment, and together you can create a plan that matches your insurance package and treatment needs.

For more information about covered medical costs, you can contact your health insurer.

Not all treatments are reimbursed

Not all treatments in medical mental health care can be reimbursed under the basic health insurance package:

  • treatments that do not meet current scientific and professional standards
  • treatments for which you do not have a referral from your GP
  • treatments for other issues, such as:
    • problems at work
    • stress-related complaints and burnout
    • relationship problems
    • problems adjusting to a new situation, such as divorce, grief, and job loss.

In addition, there are treatments for disorders that are not reimbursed under the basic health insurance package because they fall under a different domain. For example, learning disorders. Dyslexia treatment for children may be reimbursed by municipalities under the Youth Act. For adults, this treatment is at their own expense.
