FOR PATIENTS

Who is a
psychologist?

SCROLL DOWN

A psychologist, psychotherapist, and psychiatrist at GGZ voor elkaar form a well-coordinated treatment team that provides the patient with integrated care. Together with patients and their loved ones, we work on the effects of treatment and achieving the established goals.

PSYCHOLOGIST

PSYCHOLOGIST

A psychologist specializes in the study of human behavior. Most psychologists work with patients, treating them and helping them recover, or coaching them in their personal development. In addition, some psychologists provide advice on working conditions or support recruitment and selection.

A primary care psychologist or GZ psychologist usually provides short-term treatment in the generalist basic mental health care setting, focused on psychological complaints that have lasted less than six months. For more serious issues, the patient is referred to a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, or psychiatrist for what is often longer-term treatment in specialized mental health care. A psychologist is not a physician and therefore may not prescribe medication.
